Louisville Care Community Dining Addition

About This Project

Upon successful completion of an earlier project at this skilled nursing care facility, CLH Architects was asked to start work on the next phase of improvements. This included a renovation and addition to the main building in order to have a larger dining area, larger kitchen, staff break room, staff training area and storage.

The laundry room was redesigned resulting in two rooms with twice as many dryers and extractors as well as a new concrete slab that is capable of supporting the weight of the new equipment. The project required asbestos flooring and ceiling texture removal. All demolition and construction work was phased to minimize interruption of services.

The building addition faces South and has an outdoor patio accessible through large glass doors. The entire dining area is surrounded by energy efficient windows providing vast amounts of natural light which allows the residents to enjoy sunshine throughout the year, an essential environmental element to long-term care facilities.

Approximately 90% of the residents at Louisville Care Community are in wheelchairs so a main focus of the new design was to help improve their quality of life. The dining room is now large enough for residents to have their meals together rather than in shifts and maneuver easily throughout the entire area. The incorporated common areas promote a sense of community.
